Part
1: Practical Anatomy and
Philosophy Intensive (35 hours) with:
- Ellen Saltonstall (Anatomy and Therapeutics)
and
- Harshada Wagner (Yoga Philosophy and Sadhana)
- This part will count towards the full
teacher training but is open to non-teacher trainees.
- We recommend you complete this part before entering
the Art of Teaching with Bo Srey and
Jim Bernaert.
Session 1: Anusara yoga practice
with Bo Srey: Foundations of Grace
Preparing the ground of being
for the Presence within
During this transformational week, Bo will begin the day
by leading us through a dynamic and intelligent practice
of Anusara yoga. Our intention, as always, will be to align
with our pulsating, joyful Presence within. Starting with
this lofty intention, we descend into our own radiant form
to nurture the experience. Embodied as us, the Truth can
be experienced from moment to ever-expanding moment. Each
practice creates new pathways of awareness that deepen the
experience of full Presence, the experience of Grace. In
each practice session, we will review the Universal Principles
of Alignment™ and prepare the ground for the sessions
to follow.
Session 2: Antaramuktasana: the
Inner Face of Yoga with Harshada Wagner
Practical yoga philosophy, samadhi
meditation, and inner healing intensive
This intensive will explore basic Yoga philosophy and the
inner benefits of Yoga practice. Harshada will examine the
process of inner transformation (sadhana) from the point
of view of the Indian scriptures including Bhagavad Gita,
Yoga Vashistha, Yoga Sutras, Shiva Sutras, and Vijnanabhairava
Tantra. Students will learn some of the basic tenets of
Yoga philosophy and have a chance to explore the ideas in
their own life and practice. Harshada will also teach meditation
methods which allow for the direct experience of the scriptural
truths. This module will provide a deep opening into the
Heart for all levels of students. Harshada's teaching method
is very approachable and interactive with plenty of time
for discussion, practice, and question/answer.
Session 3: Experiential Anusara
Anatomy Intensive with Ellen Mohini Saltonstall
The majesty and intricacy of the
human body in movement
In this anatomy intensive we will be exploring the majesty
and intricacy of the human body in movement, and in particular,
what happens inside the key joints as we practice yoga.
We will study each area of the body (spine, hips, shoulders,
arms, legs) in very practical, interactive and engaging
ways, with attention to muscles, bones, nerves and connective
tissue. For students of Anusara yoga, The Universal Principles
of Alignment™ will have increased power and clarity
when we see how they work anatomically. If you’ve found
the anatomy to be a dry subject, full of facts to memorize,
don’t worry - Ellen’s enthusiasm and creative ways of conveying
the information will inspire and enlighten you to a new
understanding of your yoga practice from the inside out.

(70 hours) with Bo Srey and
Jim Bernaert
- Prerequisite: 100 hours of Immersion Studies
with a Certified Anusara yoga teacher

(for Thailand) to offer his mentorship and wisdom

You can apply all of these hours towards your application

About
the Trainers
Bo Srey
Bo Srey is a Certified Anusara™ yoga teacher
(www.spandananda.com). Born in New York City to Cambodian
parents, he moved to Singapore in 2005. Having practiced yoga
and meditation since 1996, Bo brings a joyful and caring spirit
to the yoga practice.
As
an undergraduate at the University of Rochester, Bo studied
with renowned Indian philosophy scholar, Douglas Brooks. Bo
began the practice of hatha yoga because of a life-long study
of martial arts and a deep interest in the mystical tradition
of the East. His first hatha yoga teacher was Rudrani Farbman.
Her wisdom permeated every word she spoke. Bo is truly indebted
to her for helping him experience hatha yoga from the inside
out.
While
teaching in the San Francisco Bay Area, Bo also studied with
Tony Briggs, a senior Iyengar Yoga teacher with whom he completed
a 1-year Teacher Training apprenticeship. During that time,
he deepened his studies with his main teacher, Anusara Founder,
John Friend. Bo has studied hundreds of hours with John Friend
throughout the United States, Europe, China, Japan and Taiwan.
These studies include two, level-1 Teacher Trainings, a level-2
Teacher Training, Master Immersion, therapy trainings and
countless weekend workshops on yoga and philosophy. In 2008,
Bo followed John Friend on his Light The Sky tour.
Anusara
yoga is a style of hatha yoga that reminds students of their
true essence, heals the body with powerful and sound biomechanical
principles and unifies outer strength with inner joy. Bo's
classes reflect the eternal dance of opposite forces: shiva-shakti,
yin-yang, concealment-revelation. His classes are challenging,
yet fun and light. While teaching precise principles of alignment,
Bo constantly encourages students to access their wisdom center,
letting the practice reveal each student's joyful nature.
He has
taught in major studios in San Francisco, Singapore and Thailand.
In addition to public classes, Bo has taught Immersions and
Teacher Trainings in Asia and the United States.
Bo and
his wife Shirley, an Anusara-Inspired™ yoga teacher, currently
live in Singapore. They teach workshops, retreats and teacher
trainings throughout the world.
Ellen
Saltonstall
Ellen Saltonstall began her practice of meditation
in 1974, and her practice of hatha yoga in 1981. After a decade
of study in the Iyengar Yoga method, she met John Friend,
who trained and certified her to teach Anusara yoga.
Ellen’s
early professional study and work in massage and dance set
the groundwork for her ongoing passion for anatomy and the
therapeutic applications of yoga. She has extensive experience
working with issues such as arthritis, menopause, fertility,
musculoskeletal pain, and repetitive strain injuries.
Ellen
is a senior teacher of Kinetic Awareness, a body therapy using
rubber balls developed by Elaine Summers. In 1983 Ellen wrote
and published the first book on the method, Kinetic Awareness;
Discovering Your Bodymind. She continues to use this method
in her therapeutic classes, and to train teachers to use this
work with clients. She teaches classes and privates in her
studio in NYC, as well as Teacher Trainings and workshops
both locally and internationally.
Ellen
recently co-authored, with Dr. Loren Fishman, two books on
yoga to be published by WW Norton: Yoga for Arthritis
(March 2008) and Yoga for Osteoporosis (March 2010).
She is currently working on an anatomy book for Anusara yoga
practitioners with Martin and Jordan Kirk. She is the mother
of three children.

John Friend, founder of Anusara yoga, said
about Jim, “He embodies integrity, devotion to the Highest,

the country and has studied with me directly for hundreds

Shirley
travels extensively with Bo and serves as a yoga teacher and
events manager at Spandananda. A lover of creative movement
and expression of the Heart, Shirley explores the elements
of precise alignment, lightness, fluidity and playfulness
in her classes. Her main influences are John Friend, Tias
Little, and Bo Srey, all of which have inspired her with their
search for the Truth and who have lovingly showed her the
true essence of teaching yoga.
In her
practice, Shirley is an artist, a dancer, a mystic, an inquisitive
child, and a courageous warrior. It has been an amazing journey
thus far, and she is eternally grateful to all who have walked
with her as she travels her path and to those who have shared
pieces of their lives with her, each one of them her teacher,
each one of them holding up a mirror to show her who she truly
is.
To experience life to the fullest, to love, laugh and cry
with an open heart, to be able to find the blessing in all
of life’s twists and turns - these are the elements of the
greatest sadhana. She feels grateful, humbled, and honored
to be able to share her love of life and yoga with you.
